Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells designed to cover the front surface of your teeth. Veneers are bonded to the front of your teeth to change their shape, color, size, and appearance.

How are they made?

Before veneers are placed, the existing teeth must be prepared to receive the veneer. A very thin layer is trimmed off of the surface of the tooth so that the veneer does not protrude forward at all. This layer is less than a millimeter thick so there is no risk of damage to the tooth. Next, an impression is taken so that the veneer(s) can be custom designed. It will take two weeks for our lab to make your veneer so our well trained staff at Blackhurst Dental will make temporary veneers for you while your permanent ones are being made. When you come back to Dr. Blackhurst’s office in Midvale, UT the new custom made veneers will be bonded to your teeth creating a beautiful smile that you have always dreamed of.

How do I take care of my veneers?

Routine dental hygiene should be enough to take care of veneers along with daily brushing and flossing. They are strong and durable, and can last for a long time with proper care. Dr. Blackhurst will always make sure to inspect the condition of your veneers during your regular six month check-ups, so he can alert you to any signs of damage or wear that might need treatment.
